Why Nirjharini ?

A lot of people have asked me why I have named my Blog Nirjharini. Such a tongue twister they say. Well I like tongue twisters and isn't it a beautiful name!

Nirjharini means a waterfall in Hindi, and to my mind this word always evokes pictures of water cascading down mountains, uninhibited and unrestrained.

The same thing happens when I am trying to write. Thoughts and ideas tumble out of my mind, sometimes so fast that I barely have time to form them into words and sentences.

But why is Nirjharini so special to me. Why did I choose it out of the 20 odd names that came into my mind?

Nirjharini denotes all that the Himalayas and the river Ganga mean to me.

Born and brought up in the plains, mountains have always fascinated and intrigued me. The Himalayan ranges rearing up towards the sky, the snow glittering in the sunlight as if the mountains are on fire. The surroundings hushed and silent; the only sound that of the Ganga roaring down in a resplendent waterfall unrestrained in all her glory and splendor.

A sense of calmness and an all pervading peace. Time to sit still and connect with one self
.

It’s in these pristine surroundings that creativity flows at its best.

And so .... Nirjharini!

  9. I'll always remember the first time I visited your blog, years ago, when you participated in a Gingerchai contest. :-) Nirjharani has the sound of a gentle, perpetual waterfall flowing into a stream, making pretty flowers bloom along the way, with the sun shining down on them and making them smile.

Love the name. Very you, now.
