Overheard at a wedding ….

So we went to a wedding in Chandigarh. A Sikh friend’s daughter was marrying a Goan Christian with the lovely name of Ashley. And no the bride was not called Scarlett or even Melanie for that matter!
As we queued up waiting to wish the newlyweds, I heard the fat matronly lady in front of me loudly whisper (and if you haven’t heard a Punjabi lady whisper let me assure you that the whisper will carry to the farthest end of a crowded room) Hai Hai nii ! main sochaya munda gora hai. Yeh to Indian nikalya, woh bhi kala !
:))

(For non Hindi/Punjabi speakers: although most of the fun might get lost in the translation, here is what it means – Oh my god, I thought the groom is white (as in foreigner). But he’s an Indian and that too a dark one !

  1. ROFL! Did you not burst out laughing right thr? If you didn't, I'm in respect of your self control :D

Btw, the line "A Sikh friend’s daughter was marrying a Goan Christian with the lovely name of Ashley" had me confused. Who's name's Ashley here? Her's? or the groom's? :D :D
